In the early 1960's, Dr. Robert Halperin bought a small building on Old Country Road in Hicksville and started the Mid Island Animal Hospital. Since that time, Mid Island Animal Hospital has served the communities of central Nassau County with compassionate and sophisticated veterinary care.

Mid Island Animal Hospital is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association. Fewer than 18% of the hospitals in the United States are accredited hospitals. Hospitals that are accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) meet high veterinary standards. Each hospital voluntarily completes a detailed evaluation of its services and equipment. Then a trained practice consultant thoroughly inspects the hospital to make sure it meets the AAHA's high standards.

The association requires that we:

Maintain orderly and complete medical records for each patient we see

Maintain a complete diagnostic facility so that we are equipped to make prompt and accurate diagnosis and treatment for your pet

Maintain a complete on-site pharmacy

Utilize proper anesthetic procedures including a pre-anesthetic examination and a safe, painless, state-of-the-art anesthesia

Maintain modern surgical facilities

Provide nursing care to our patients

Maintain a safe and sanitary facility, including the outside premises

Provide dental services

Provide 24-hour emergency service.

In 1981 Dr. Mitchell Kornet became an associate at Mid Island Animal Hospital. In 1983 he became the owner and director. Since that time, the hospital has flourished into a multiple doctor practice offering the highest quality of medicine and surgery for pets. We are lucky to have two wonderful veterinarians, Dr. Anne Zeifman and Dr. Mary Raciti as our associates today.

Technology in veterinary medicine has grown tremendously, and Mid Island Animal Hospital is able to provide all of the latest innovations that have developed. Animals are living longer, healthier lives today than ever before because of the advances made in veterinary medicine.
